A doula is a physical, emotional and spiritual support person, who provides evidence-based information. Birth Doulas help families who are expecting a baby with prenatal appointments, during pregnancy, childbirth and right after childbirth. Postpartum Doulas support families after birth, to navigate, process, and recover from the birth, help with the basics of lactation, infant sleep and feeding, and infant normal communication and behavior.
Doulas create a relationship with families, providing them with security and tranquility in this memorable and important journey in the life of every human being. Every person who gives birth and their baby has the right to have the best possible experience, since it marks our lives forever.
The benefits of a Doula can reach...
Training as a Doula is a great opportunity to help mothers giving birth, many times in a country foreign to theirs, without relatives nearby, and in many cases without knowing the language. Be part of the team supporting our communities.
~ NOW BOTH, BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM DOULAS ARE COVERED BY SOME INSURANCES ~
Hello, my name is Lorena. I am the proud mother of three wonderful young adults. By the time I had my third child in 2004, I realized that I enjoy spending my time having great experiences with little ones and sharing tools with parents.
My family and I moved from Panama in Central America to Colorado in 2006 and now live in the mountains, Eagle County. We enjoy our family, life, and friends as much as possible. My family has always been supportive of my decision of guiding parents with their little ones.
I started working with children in 1989 for the Army’s Child Development Center back in Panama and was trained by them. In the year 2000, I had the opportunity to start a children’s business, Kidszone. A few years later, I worked at Little Blocks (a Child Learning Center), where I spent most of my time helping with the administration and general management of the business before moving to Colorado.
In 2008, I worked at a Goddard School, went through their training, and gained some more experience leading a pre-toddler classroom. That gave me the motivation to open my Licensed Family Childcare in 2009, as an addition to my other services. I immensely enjoy being with babies and their parents to share and apply evidenced-base tools that helps everybody's days go more smoothly.
As a US citizen born and raised in Panama, growing up with both cultures have widen my understanding in individualized families' needs. I come with tools to help families thrive with their children, help to understand their baby's needs at different developmental stages.
Being from Panama, Spanish is my first language. When I am with the babies, I fluently speak Spanish to them, and introduce basic sign language, helping them expand their language skills. My main focus is letting babies express their feelings, and practice processing them. I model self-regulation, using tools like deep breathing and connection, helping children enjoy growing, feeling safe, loved, accepted, and understood, giving them tools to keep wanting to explore and be able to learn.
I help to understand how children develop and what research have shown to be the optimal way to guide them. When children feel understood, instead of "the terrible two", it can be fun turning it to "the terrific two". You enjoy how your child starts to figure things out even during "tantrums".
Also as a Certified Labor & Postpartum Doula, Lactation Counselor, and Infant Massage Instructor, I bring a combination of knowledge and experience in supporting parents with the transitions to parenthood. I also offer classes, making prenatal connection that helps navigate birth, understanding postpartum recovery, boosting (breast)feeding support, tips & tricks for less cry and more sleep, early child development, and discipline with consciousness.
I help families create a strong structure in their baby's life, with information that have been proven is the ideal.
I was born in Panamá and moved to Colorado in 2006. I am bilingual; English and Spanish. I love reading books, listening to music, and spending time in nature. I am constantly looking forward to new experiences and I believe that a baby is pure love in physical form.
VIRTUAL ASSISTANT - The amazing person responsible for the virtual communication... Thank you Shannon!
LABOR DOULA SUPPORT
“I am very grateful for the support we got from Lorena during my labor, the experience was wonderful. I close my eyes thinking about my labor and I recall lavender scent, soothing music, fresh air in my face and for sure the pain… however, having qualified support by your side makes a big difference. Lorena, with all the techniques she knows, it helped me not only to dilate quicker but to have a more natural and humanized birth. My husband and I will always be thankful with her, and her support.” – Maria Elena Chino

GUIDANCE ON INFANT SLEPP
"Lorena has been a wonderful source of information and support as I've navigated being a new mom! Recently I had asked her for advice as we were trying to transition my little one from sleeping in a bassinet in our room, to sleeping in a crib in her own room. We had tried it on our own with little luck for a few nights. When talking to Lorena about it, she provided great insight and several ideas to help make the transition. We followed her guidance and our little one has been sleeping in her own room in her crib for several weeks, with little to no interruption!
Lorena is obviously very passionate about the work that she does with parents and children and her expertise and love really shines through. " - Nicole Lehman

INFANT / TODDLER CARE
“Lorena had a curriculum outlined for my son and would keep me up to date on things she was working on with him so I could do the same at home. She not only worried about his primary needs but his cognitive, social, emotional and physical development as well. She was always open to any suggestions I had or things I wanted to try regarding activities, food, cloth diapers, etc.” – Amy Smith
“Ms. Lorena thoughtfully developed lessons including reading, projects and songs that challenged and entertained the children at an age-appropriate level. Our son often came home remembering the songs and dances he learned, and was proud of the crafts and projects that he made. Ms. Lorena also provided a safe and clean environment for the children.” – Keith and Adriana Miller
“My twins enjoyed being around Ms. Lorena with her constantly positive attitude and loving manner. She provides a very warm and caring environment for the children to learn, while doing things for themselves. She is always available when kids need her throughout their stay.” – Kimberly Schmitz
“Lorena is wonderful with kids and has a special way of connecting with them. Lorena has such a loving, trusting and compassionate nature. Children of all ages really respond to her. She provides a safe and loving environment in which children grow in their creativity, knowledge and imagination. Lorena is very talented at teaching children age-appropriate concepts, and being able to teach individually based on a child’s level of learning. She has excellent verbal communication skills, is extremely organized and reliable.” – Marny Burns
“My children are always so well behaved under her watchful eye, just a gentle reminder puts them back on track if they are not sharing properly or thinking of throwing a tantrum. She provides ideas on stimulating activities and helps them learn in a fun and age appropriate way.” – Kimberly Smith
” We have many, many examples of how Ms. Lorena impressed us with our son. One of my favorites is one morning when he first came into the room; he and another child were fighting over a toy. The other little boy “won” and got the toy and our son started balling. My first instinct was to say “no crying, we share”, Ms. Lorena in all her wisdom got down on his level gave him a warm hug and talked it out by helping him work through it on his own instead of just telling him to get over it.” – Katie Beth & Brandon Kauffman
“I would like to take this opportunity to recognize Lorena for her excellent job performance on our Child Development Program. Due to her continuous efforts the Child Development Center children have been able to learn concepts such as sharing, socializing, safety, and independence skills. Her ability to present the different activities in an artistic manner has proved to be an invaluable resource for our program.” – Nelly Richards
