Our Doulas - What is a Doula?

The doulas of Babies Under My Wings are physical, emotional and spiritual support people who provide evidence-based information.

Birth doulas help families who are expecting a baby with prenatal appointments, during pregnancy, childbirth and right after childbirth.

Postpartum doulas support families after birth, to navigate, process, and recover from the birth, help with the basics of lactation, infant sleep and feeding, and infant normal communication and behavior.

Doulas create a relationship with families, providing them with security and tranquility in this memorable and important journey in the life of every human being. Every person who gives birth and their baby has the right to have the best possible experience, since it marks our lives forever.

The benefits of a doula:

  • A reduction in the rate of cesarean sections
  • A decrease in the duration of labor
  • A decrease in the use of pain relievers during childbirth
  • A decrease in postpartum depression, and postpartum recovery without regrets
  • Greater satisfaction for mothers
  • Help alleviate the workload of medical staff, the doula taking care of the family, allowing medical staff to concentrate on more complex cases
  • Educate families about different options for comfort measures (medical and non-medical) during childbirth
  • Empower families by recognizing and valuing their feelings during childbirth
  • Fewer doctor's visits
  • Cause a domino effect with dispersing education by support to families
  • Obtain notable results over the years in the community development
  • Guide people's attitude in a positive, proactive, motivating, and mutually supportive direction

Training as a doula is a great opportunity to help mothers giving birth, many times in a country foreign to theirs, without relatives nearby, and in many cases without knowing the language. Be part of the team supporting our communities.

Birth and postpartum doulas are covered by some insurances.
